The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust provided an interest-free loan of $3.36 million to the Re:START the Heart Trust in October 2011, enabling the retail hub of shipping containers to open in time for the busy pre-Christmas shopping period. Re:START was the only retail outlet open for business in the inner city at that time.
